HomeDrug Rehab Erasmuskloof

Drug Rehab Erasmuskloof covers drug and alcohol treatment for Erasmuskloof and the surrounding area. A meaningful share of enquiries from here involve people in policing, emergency services or the military, where trauma exposure and irregular hours both feed into how substance use starts and how treatment has to be arranged. For how treatment works, see Drug Rehab Pretoria. Nearby: Elardus Park, Menlyn, Moreleta Park.

Options From Erasmuskloof

  • Outpatient treatment - structured sessions while living at home. See outpatient rehab.
  • Inpatient and residential treatment - staying at a facility for the length of the programme. See inpatient rehab.
  • Medically supervised withdrawal - where alcohol, benzodiazepines or opioids are involved. See medical detox.
  • State and NGO services - lower cost, usually with a waiting list. See affordable rehab.

Ask how trauma is handled in the programme

Sequencing matters. It is worth asking before choosing a facility.

When Trauma Sits Underneath the Drinking

Where post-traumatic stress is part of the picture, the substance use is frequently doing a job: shutting down intrusive memories, forcing sleep, or flattening a state the person cannot otherwise switch off. Removing the substance without addressing what it was doing tends to produce a fast return to it.

Sequencing matters. Stabilisation first, then trauma work at a pace that does not destabilise the person. A programme that opens trauma processing in week one, before any stability exists, can make things worse. See PTSD and addiction.

Occupational Exposure and Reluctance to Disclose

People in uniformed and emergency roles often delay treatment longer than others, usually because of what they believe disclosure will cost them professionally. That delay is itself a risk factor, and it is worth separating the two questions: what treatment requires, and what an employer is entitled to know.

Clinical information is not shared outside the treating team without consent, and a sick certificate does not have to name the condition. Where an employee assistance programme exists, it is confidential by design.

Sleep, Shift Rosters and Alcohol

Alcohol used to force sleep after a night shift is one of the most common patterns behind dependence in shift workers, and it is almost never described as drinking to cope. It is described as the only way to sleep.

It is worth naming because it fragments sleep rather than restoring it, so the amount required climbs over time. That is the mechanism by which a practical arrangement becomes a physical dependence.

Withdrawal Where Sleep Medicine Is Also Involved

Do not stop heavy daily drinking or benzodiazepines abruptly without medical advice. Withdrawal from either can cause seizures and can be fatal. Where alcohol is combined with prescribed sedatives, the withdrawal plan has to account for both, and it belongs with a doctor rather than being managed at home.

Ask whether withdrawal needs medical cover

If alcohol or benzodiazepines are involved, settle this question before anything else.

Cost, Cover and Employer Programmes

Where an employee assistance programme exists, it may fund assessment and part of the treatment confidentially. Otherwise cost follows the usual drivers: setting, length of stay, whether detox is included and psychiatric input. Ask what the weekly figure covers before comparing options.

Admission From Erasmuskloof

  • 1
Call or send the form. Confidential, no cost, no obligation.
  • 2
Assessment by phone - substance, how long, previous treatment, physical health, support at home.
  • 3
A level of care is recommended, and facilities are shortlisted by what actually has space.
  • 4
Costs and funding confirmed in writing before anything is booked.
  • 5
    Admission date arranged.

Emergencies are the exception to all of this. If someone is unconscious, having a seizure or at risk of harming themselves, call 112 or 10177 rather than waiting for a call back.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can trauma and addiction be treated together?
Yes, and where both are present they usually have to be. The sequencing matters: stabilisation first, then trauma work at a pace that does not destabilise the person.
Should trauma therapy start immediately?
Usually not in the first week. Opening trauma processing before any stability exists can make things worse. A good programme will explain its sequencing if you ask.
Will my employer be told?
No. Clinical information is not shared outside the treating team without consent, and a sick certificate does not have to state the condition.
Is drinking to sleep after night shift a problem?
It is one of the most common routes into dependence in shift workers. Alcohol fragments sleep rather than restoring it, so the amount needed climbs over time.
Does an employee assistance programme count as disclosure?
These programmes are confidential by design. What is shared with the employer is generally limited to whether an employee is participating, not the clinical detail. Confirm the terms with the provider.
Are there programmes used to working with uniformed services?
Some facilities have more experience with occupational trauma than others. It is a fair question to ask directly during the assessment.
